What are Tennessee basketball's transfer portal needs? Start with these three

Tennessee basketball has hit the jackpot in the transfer portal in the past two seasons with one-year wonders in Dalton Knecht and Chaz Lanier and two-year standout Jordan Gainey.

The Vols will try to do the same in building a roster for coach Rick Barnes' 11th season in hunting for more portal stars. UT has six open scholarships with four returners and three incoming freshmen.

Here are the three main areas the Vols will look to address in the transfer portal:

Tennessee needs a veteran point guard with high-level experience

Zakai Zeigler has been a staple for Tennessee for four seasons. The Vols have to fill the point guard spot with Zeigler's career ending and they'll look to do it with a veteran with starting experience. Ideally, that means finding a point guard who has played at a high level in a power conference.

They have Troy Henderson coming in as a freshman in the 2025 recruiting class, but he likely is not an immediate starter. Getting a proven veteran will give Tennessee two point guards to use next season and give Henderson time to develop.
