VOTE: Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Network for March 10-22
Each week The Herald-Tribune staff will select nominees for the Herald-Tribune Athlete of the Week poll sponsored by Central Florida Behavioral Network, Inc. Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by Sarasota and Manatee county coaches during the week to htincoming@gmail.com. Readers can then vote in the online poll to determine the Athlete of the Week.
The winner of the March 3-8 poll was Riverview girls lacrosse player Maria Berzins with 26.34% of the vote. In four Ram matches that week, Berzins combined for seven goals, 13 assists, and four draw controls.
A poll will be posted at heraldtribune.com each Monday, and voting will end at 10 a.m. Friday each week.
The nominees for the week of March 10-22 are:
Baseball
Landon Henderson, Palmetto: In the Tigers’ 12-2 victory over Riverview, Henderson went 2-for-3 with a home run, double, three runs scored, and two RBI.
Braedon Mackay, Sarasota: In three Sailor tournament games in Auburndale, Mackay went a combined 5-for-11 with a home run, triple, six runs scored, and nine RBI.
Joey Puccia, Bradenton Christian: In the Panthers’ 11-7 win over Saint Stephen’s, Puccia went 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. On the mound he got the win, pitching 4.2 innings, allowing three hits and one run, with six strikeouts.
JaBrien Quiles, Parrish: In three Bull games, Quiles combined to go 7-for-10 with a home run, triple, four doubles, and nine RBI.
Brody Redmon, Saint Stephen’s: In the Falcons’ 14-4 victory over The Classical Academy, Redmon went 4-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored, and an RBI.
Brayden Sands, Braden River: In the Pirates’ 9-2 win over Palmetto, Sands went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI.
Boys lacrosse
Jack Yochim, Riverview: In the Rams’ 16-9 victory over Gulf Coast HEAT, Yochim had three goals and two assists.
Girls lacrosse
Gabby Ulrich, Cardinal Mooney: In two Cougar matches, Ulrich scored nine goals and had five assists.
Softball
Alcie Despard, Saint Stephen’s: In two Falcon games, Despard combined to go 5-for-7 with four doubles, four runs scored, and four RBI.
Ashlan Guengerich, Sarasota: In the Sailors’ 7-6 loss to Riverview, Guengerich hit two home runs, one a game-tying grand slam, and drove in six runs.
Cailinne Kelly, North Port: In the Bobcats’ 9-4 victory over Manatee, Kelly went 3-for-4 with a home run, double, two runs scored, and three RBI.
