UNC women’s basketball to face Oregon State to open March Madness in 2025 NCAA Tournament
UNC women's basketball has reached the NCAA Tournament for a fifth straight season and will host first- and second-round games in Chapel Hill.
The Tar Heels (27-7) finished tied for fourth in the ACC but finished the regular season with losses to Duke and Virginia while stars Alyssa Ustby and Reniya Kelly sat out with injuries. They both returned for the ACC Tournament, where UNC beat Boston College and No. 22 Florida State before falling to top-seeded NC State in the semifinals less than a month after beating the Wolfpack in Carmichael Arena.
That was enough to earn a top-16 ranking by the NCAA Selection Committee and become a tournament host site for the first time in 10 years.

Who does UNC women's basketball play in March Madness?
The Tar Heels earned the No. 3 seed in the Birmingham Region by the selection committee and will host No. 14 Oregon State (19-15) in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of that game will advance to play either No. 6 West Virginia or No. 11 Columbia-Washington winner.
How far will UNC go in 2025 NCAA Tournament?
The Tar Heels are a bit banged up, but who isn't this time of year? Maria Gakdeng is key to this team's success as a physical, consistent post player, but they need to get her the ball. A lot. If Kelly and Ustby can get healthy, this team can match the Sweet 16 run of 2022.
