UNC women's basketball makes sixth-straight NCAA Tournament with a high seed
For the sixth-consecutive season, the UNC women's basketball team will be playing in the NCAA Tournament. 2025 feels a bit different, though, as North Carolina has great potential to make its deepest run in two decades.
The Tar Heels (27-7, 13-5 ACC) finished fifth in a loaded ACC this year, with eight teams about to play in the Big Dance. NC State won the ACC Regular Season Championship, while Duke captured the ACC Tournament Title.
UNC wins games behind its defense, which allows just 58.1 points per game to opponents, while countering with a balanced, deep offense featuring Alyssa Ustby.
Not only will North Carolina be dancing, but it'll also host. The Tar Heels, seeded third in the Birmingham 2 Region, will host 14-seed Oregon State on Saturday, March 22 at a time TBD.
UNC advanced to the ACC Tournament Semifinals, losing 66-55 to NC State. North Carolina limped into Greensboro with the injury bug, as both Ustby and Reniya Kelly missed games with injuries, but both are fully healthy and expected to play major roles in the Big Dance.

The Tar Heels and Beavers will face off for the right to face either West Virginia, Washington or Columbia. The Mountaineers (24-7) lost to TCU in the Big 12 Tournament, Washington lost to Michigan in the Big 10 Tournament, while Columbia lost to Harvard in the Ivy League Tournament.
I never like looking ahead too far, but UNC has the potential for a Sweet 16 matchup with 2-seeded Duke. North Carolina has Oregon State up first – and you can bet Carmichael Arena will be packed with sky blue.
