Tyrese Haliburton questionable again vs. Nets; D'Angelo Russell ruled out
INDIANAPOLIS -- Pacers All-Star point Tyrese Haliburton is yet again questionable with lower back soreness for Saturday's 5 p.m. game against the Nets at Gainbridge Fieldhouse after missing the previous three games.
Haliburton had missed just one of the Pacers' first 60 games, but has missed six of the Pacers' last nine games. The first three were for a left hip flexor strain and the last three have been for lower back soreness. The Pacers lost each of the first three games but have won the last three in dramatic fashion, beating the Timberwolves, Mavericks, and Nets by a combined 12 points with the wins over Minnesota and Brooklyn both coming in overtime.
Haliburton is averaging 18.5 points and 9.0 assists per game this season, ranking fourth in the NBA in assists behind Atlanta's Trae Young, Denver's Nikola Jokic and Detroit's Cade Cunningham after winning the league title in assists last year. Since the All-Star break he's averaging 21.9 points per game on 56.0% shooting including 48.6% 3-point shooting as well as 11.9 assists and 2.6 steals per game against 1.0 turnovers per game.
With Haliburton out, the Pacers have been moving Andrew Nembhard from shooting guard to point guard and bringing wing Bennedict Mathurin into the starting lineup and starting him at shooting guard.
The Pacers' injury report is otherwise clean other than center Isaiah Jackson, who has been out since Nov. 1 with an Achilles tendon tear.
After Thursday's game, the Nets added guard D'Angelo Russell and forward Ziaire Williams to the injury report. Russell has ben ruled out of Saturday's game with right ankle soreness. Williams is questionable with right hamstring tightness. Russell and Williams led the Nets in scoring Thursday with 22 points each. Guards Cam Thomas (left hamstring strain) and De'Anthony Melton (ACL tear) are likely out for the season. Forward Cameron Johnson, the Nets' second-leading scorer with 18.9 points per game, should be available after missing Thursday's game for rest purposes.
