After Kelce, 35, confirmed that he'd be returning to the NFL for another season, Kansas City Chiefs coach Andy Reid revealed to The Athletic that the tight end is "training like crazy" for what could be his final season playing football.

Reid, 67, told the outlet on Tuesday, April 1 that Kelce informed him of his decision not to retire "less than a week" after the Philadelphia Eagles defeated them in the 2025 Super Bowl on Feb. 9.

The head coach said he wanted Kelce to "put it out there" that he was returning. “I always like guys to step back (after the season), but he wants to come back and he’s training like crazy, too," Reid said.

The Chiefs will also work on finding "better ways to support [Kelce] within the structure of their offense" in the upcoming season, per The Athletic. “I’ll see when he comes back and see where he’s at,” Reid said of Kelce, who is "learning when to come out when he needs it" in his veteran years.

Reid noted that the Chiefs were "banged up" this season, especially at the receiver positions, which "doesn't help a tight end's cause at all."

"The healthier we can be around him, he can still be productive," Reid added.

The Athletic also spoke to Chiefs owner Clark Hunt regarding Kelce's return. "I’m so excited that he’s going to be back,” said Hunt, adding that he "felt like" Kelce would return before it was official.
