Travis Kelce has some thoughts on Bengals' Chase, Higgins contracts
The Cincinnati Bengals made waves with the contract extensions for Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins.
Fans love it. Plenty of outsiders agree it was the right move. And a very vocal minority think it could backfire in spectacular fashion.
One guy who appears to love it? Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, who talked about the massive contract extensions on the latest episode of his “New Heights” podcast.
“For those who are wondering, yes Joe Burrow is making $55 million per year, Ja’Marr Chase making just over $40 mill a year and Tee Higgins making close to $30 million a year, that’s over $125 million per year in new money on just three offensive players," said Travis. "When you say it like that [Laughs], that is f— bonkers. I’m not saying it shouldn’t be done. It’s just never been done.”
It might seem odd to some that such a direct rival of the Bengals is more than happy to see Cincinnati’s best players extended for the long-term. But Kelce has always been very complimentary to the Bengals even at the height of the rivalry.
And after all, the numbers going up, even with the help of the conservative Bengals, is a good thing for players around the league.
As for Kelce, he’s sounded intent on playing in 2025 rather than hanging up the cleats, so while the Bengals and Chiefs aren’t scheduled to play during the regular season, perhaps he’ll link up with them in the playoffs.
