Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins contract details start to emerge
The Cincinnati Bengals went to some uncharacteristic lengths to make the contract extensions for Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins work.
According to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer, that four-year, $161 million contract for Chase includes $73.9 million guaranteed at signing. The guarantees go beyond Year 1, too, with roster bonuses and $29.8 million guaranteed for 2027. By March of 2027, the running total of guarantees will reach $112 million.
As for Higgins, the Bengals again went beyond Year 1 with guarantees to make it happen. A $30 million charge is guaranteed at signing, with $10.9 million guaranteed in 2026.
Long story short, like they did with Joe Burrow, the Bengals guaranteed money beyond the first year of the extension for both players. It's not that entirely cut-and-dry (final cap hits for 2025 are still in flux based on structure of payouts), but the front office did what it needed to do in a modern fashion to keep Burrow and Co. happy and the contention window wide open.
