Top-five finishes propel PCM boys to eighth at Iowa State
Mar. 17—AMES — Five top-five finishes propelled the PCM boys track and field team to an eighth-place team finish in the Class 2A portion of the IATC Indoor Championships at Iowa State University on Thursday.
The Mustangs entered nine events in the meet and nearly half of them ended up on the podium. The top six finishers in each event earn medals.
The Mustang girls were not as busy overall, but PCM put two of its four events into the top 10. The 4x800 relay scored a podium finish in fifth.
Gavin Van Gorp
The PCM boys scored 25 points in eighth. Treynor won the 2A boys portion of the meet with 58 points. The rest of the top five included Denver (42), Okoboji (37), Crestwood (28) and South Hardin (27).
The top finish for the Mustang boys came in the shuttle hurdle relay as PCM placed third with Gavin Van Gorp, Adrien Robbins, Jaden Houser and Jake Winters. That foursome stopped the clock in 34.29 seconds.
The distance medley relay team of Robbins, Tad Wilson, Riley Graber and Kash Fischer placed fourth in 3 minutes, 41.12 seconds.
Graber, Van Gorp and Fischer all placed top five in an individual event.
Graber led the individuals with a third-place tally in the 400-meter dash. He was clocked in 50.44 seconds. Fischer placed fifth in the 1,600 with a time of 4:42.74.
Abi Teeter
Van Gorp also was fifth in the 60 hurdles. He qualified for the finals in fifth with a time of 8.83 and then finished in 8.76 in the finals. Winters tied for 12th in the event with a time of 9.11.
Coby DeRaad took 11th in the 800 with a time of 2:09.93. He led off the 4x800 relay that also placed 11th.
That team of DeRaad, Joe Shaver, Carson Hansen and Rylan Edgington finished in 9:15.13.
The distance medley relay also found a place on the podium. The Mustangs were fourth in 3:41.12 with Robbins, Wilson, Graber and Fischer.
Alex Wendt competed in the shot put and finished 12th with a toss of 43 feet, 5 1/4 inches. Van Gorp placed 14th in the long jump with a leap of 19-3.
Lila Milani
The girls 4x800 relay team featured Abi Teeter, Darbey DeRaad, Bailey Wheeler and Lila Milani and they finished fifth in 10:27.17.
Milani also placed seventh in the 800 with a time of 2:29.41. Teeter took 11th in the 1,500 in 5:24.47.
The Mustangs' 4x400 relay team of Katelynn Fagg, Lexi Fagg, Paiten Rumbaugh and Ryan DeVore placed 13th in 4:29.88.
