State basketball roundup: Willamette, Springfield girls; Thurston boys finish seasons
The OSAA basketball state tournaments concluded Saturday, with three Eugene-area teams finishing their seasons with trophies.
Below is a recap of the local teams and where they finished in their respective tournaments.
Willamette takes fifth place in 6A
The No. 2 Willamette girls fell to top seed Jefferson, 60-48, in the 6A third-place contest at Portland's Chiles Center and took fifth.
The Wolverines were led by Harper Wagner, who scored 20 points and had five rebounds. Isabella Harms had 11 points and Brynn Smith added eight points and seven rebounds.
Jefferson (27-2) was led by Chauncey Andersen, who scored a game-high 24 points. Abrianna Lawrence added 15 points.
Willamette closed the season with an overall record of 23-6, and a regular season that included a 12-0 record in the Southwest Conference. The Wolverines graduate six seniors this spring.
Thurston finishes sixth place in 5A
The No. 2 Thurston boys lost to No. 5 West Albany, 58-47, in the 5A fourth-place contest at Linfield University in McMinnville.
Lucas LaBounty led the Colts, who took sixth, with a game-high 20 points and eight rebounds. Nate Stiffler had 10 points and Noah Blair added seven points.
Gavin Aguilar led the Bulldogs with 14 points. Owen Hopkins had 13 points and Jonah Lasselle added 11 points.
Thurston closes its season with a 23-5 overall record, including 12-0 in the Midwestern League. The Colts graduate five seniors in June.
Springfield finishes sixth place in 5A after overtime loss
The No. 6 Springfield girls fell 62-56 in overtime to No. 8 Wilsonville in the 5A fourth-place match at Linfield.
The Millers took sixth place and were led by sophomore Sailor Hall, who scored a game-high 23 points and had six rebounds. Iyahna Woodard added 12 points and nine rebounds for the Millers.
The Wildcats (19-10) were led by Gabi Moultrie, who scored 20 points. Audrey Counts added 18 points and eight rebounds.
Springfield finished the season 19-9 overall and 10-2 in the Midwestern League. The Millers graduate three seniors at the end of the school year.
