When you think of Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen, you tend to think about his ability to lead an offense with his arm and legs, his towering frame, and strong arm. These aren’t the traits that jump to mind when thinking about Ole Miss rookie-to-be Jaxson Dart. Still, veteran NFL draft analyst Todd McShay sees similarities between the two players.
It’s a strange comparison on the surface because the stark difference between their body types and defying traits. Where McShay sees the similarity is their poise in the pocket. It’s a trait New Orleans Saints fans would appreciate after seeing some of Derek Carr’s struggles in 2024.
McShay elaborated by saying, “There's this like suddenness when pressure's coming -- and it jumped out over and over on tape—pressure's coming (and) it's not 'oh (expletive).' There's no sense of panic ever in his game, except those three terrible plays at the end of the year."
Poise is an underrated aspect of the quarterback position. Carr struggled to deal with pressure and often looked to panic in the moment. If Dart was drafted by the Saints and could carry that attribute to the pros, it would be a welcomed addition to an offense still looking to fortify their offensive line.
