Titans star gives his thoughts about the No. 1 overall pick

While many have agreed that the Tennessee Titans will select Cam Ward with the No. 1 pick, some wonder if that is indeed the right move for the franchise.

CBS Sports caught up with Titans defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons, who gave his thoughts on Ward and what Tennessee should do with that first pick.

"I think him [Cam Ward] and Shedeur [Sanders] are both just great quarterbacks,” Simmons said. “You talk about generational quarterbacks, and you could put them in that category.”

As for what Simmons would do if he were in charge instead of general manager Mike Borgonzi, he offered a different take on that pick.

“At the end of the day, I'm also a defensive player, too… And I need an edge player. The Titans got rid of one my edge players with Harold Landry,” He said. “I wouldn't be mad if we went and got my guy from Penn State [Abdul Carter]."

Carter may be one of the two best prospects in this class and is still developing as an edge rusher. Although taking Carter may seem far-fetched, Simmons is right. The Titans need to improve their edge play, and Carter is the best available.

The Titans enter the draft with more holes than picks and are more than a quarterback away from being contenders. They have giant needs at wide receiver, edge, and potentially even cornerback. While Ward may be the best quarterback in this class, he will only be as successful as the team around him allows.
