Potential No. 1 pick Cooper Flagg comments on basketball future

Duke freshman Cooper Flagg said this week that he is going to take some time to weigh his future options on the court now that the season has come to a conclusion.

Flagg led the Blue Devils to the Final Four, averaging 19.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.2 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.4 blocks on 38.5% shooting from 3-point range. He became the 22nd player in program history to be named a consensus first-team All-American.

The 6-foot-9 forward was named the John R. Wooden Award winner on Friday as the most outstanding college basketball player. After turning in a historic campaign, Flagg said on "SportsCenter" that he will now confer with the people closest to him about where he should play next season.

"It was an incredible year," Flagg said. "I met a lot of incredible people (and) made a ton of great relationships that I'm going to have for the rest of my life. I think now it is time for me to reflect, take a couple of days, take a week, take a month -- whatever it is for me. Talk to my parents, talk to the coaches and just really decide what is best for me."

Flagg entered the season with tremendous expectations as the consensus top recruit in the class of 2024. He was highly touted as the likely top pick in the 2025 NBA draft and lived up to the hype after becoming the face of the sport this past season.

While Flagg is considered a near lock to hear his name called first on June 25, there has been some talk about the 18-year-old returning to school for another season. However, coach Jon Scheyer said on March 31 on the "Dan Patrick Show" that he hasn't talked to him about coming back.

Flagg has drawn comparisons to former Duke legend and Hall of Famer Grant Hill because of his size, athleticism and ability to affect games in various ways. He is projected to be able to step in immediately and contribute at a high level in the NBA.

He has until April 26 to declare for the draft as an early entrant.
