Titans Must Get This Draft Right and Select Cam Ward
The Tennessee Titans pick first in the upcoming NFL Draft. Based on all reports, intents and purposes, the Titans will select Miami quarterback Cam Ward as their franchise savior, based on the team’s arrival at the Miami Hurricanes Pro Day.
The Titans' head coach, team president and the GM were all present to watch Ward go through passing drills.
This is not the first time that the Titans have drafted a quarterback in the first or any round. Since 2011, Tennessee has drafted a QB seven times, but only twice in the first round.
In 2011, the Titans selected Washington QB Jake Locker with the eighth overall pick in the first round. Locker cleaned out his locker after just four years in the league: 30 games, 4,967 yards passing, 27 touchdowns, 22 INTs, and a completion percentage of 57%.
Then, in 2015, the Titans drafted Marcus Mariota out of Oregon, fresh off a Heisman Trophy-winning season in 2014 and national championship game loss to Ohio State at the dawn of the College Football Playoff era. Mariota lasted five seasons with the Titans: 13,207 yards, 76 TDs, 44 INTs, 63 percent completions in 63 games.
Sprinkled in among those first rounders were quarterback draft picks like Zac Mettenberger (LSU, Round 6, 2014), Luke Faulk (Washington State, Round 6, 2018), Cole McDonald (Hawaii, Round 7, 2020), Malik Willis (Liberty, Round 3, 2022) and Will Levis (Kentucky, Round 2, 2023). Of this group, Levis is the only one who has managed to stick around.
5-0 🙌

Cam Ward goes 24-38 for 343 yards 4 passing TDS and 1 rushing TD as he led the No. 7 @CanesFootball for its fifth win of the season @MiamiHurricanes | #GoCanes | @drpepperpic.twitter.com/lVaRc3UVBE
Ward is the NCAA record holder for career touchdown passes with 158 to his credit. He was second in the FBS in passing yards last season with 4,313 yards and led the nation with 39 TDs. Ward completed 67 percent of his passes.
Ball security is not an issue as he only threw seven INTs in 454 pass attempts. Ward threw only 23 INTs in three seasons at the FBS level.
The Titans’ drafting Cam Ward is a no-brainer. He is a generational talent who has been a winner with every team he has played for at the college level, from FCS program Incarnate Word to Washington State to Miami.
The Titans are on the clock and have pushed all their chips to the center of the table. They are all in on the best quarterback prospect in this draft.
