There is life in Kevin De Bruyne as he stars for Belgium over the international break
One player who could have a vital role to play in Manchester City’s push to secure Champions League football is Kevin De Bruyne. At times this season, it has appeared that the end is near for the Manchester City legend. But watching De Bruyne play for Belgium over the international break there remains life in De Bruyne. He played a key role in Belgium’s overnight win over Ukraine. The hope is that he can carry that form through the closing stages of the 24/25 season for Pep Guardiola’s side.
Belgium beat the Ukraine 3-nil overnight in UEFA Nations League action. The win saw them maintain their place in League A of the competition with a 4-3 aggregate win over the two-legged tie between the two teams. Kevin De Bruyne played a key role for his country and his display was a promising sign for Manchester City.
De Bruyne looked like the De Bruyne of old for Belgium overnight. He was at the heart of the majority of Belgium’s attacking moves with a fine midfield display. De Bruyne picked up an assist and created four chances throughout the game. There was an energy to De Bruyne’s play that has been lacking at times this season. What stood out was De Bruyne’s determination and quality over the 90 minutes. When De Bruyne is on he remains one of the best midfielders in the game. He showed that for Belgium overnight.

From a Manchester City point of view, the hope is that De Bruyne can carry the form he displayed over the international break into the final stages of this season. If he can, he will have a key role to play in City’s chase for Champions League football and the FA Cup. Watching De Bruyne last night you got the sense that he is almost back to his best. If he is over Manchester City’s remaining games he could help them secure their goals over the closing stages of this season. There is still life in Kevin De Bruyne and that was on full display over the international break.
