A price tag emerges for a RB Leipzig playmaker but should Manchester City pay it?
Amidst the host of areas that Manchester City need to bolster their squad in the summer, they are crying out for creativity in midfield. Kevin De Bruyne’s power has waned and City do need to replace him. As a player, Florian Wirtz stands head and shoulders above any other player for that particular role. But RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Xavi Simons could be an alternative to Florian Wirtz. Now a new report indicates that it will take at least €70 million to Simons from RB Leipzig. Is that a move City should make? That appears to be the question going forward.
Christian Falk has reported via his exclusive Daily Briefing column that RB Leipzig would demand at least €70 million to consider selling Xavi Simons in the summer. Furthermore, Falk reports that Manchester City do like Simons as a player. Falk further reports that RB Leipzig does want to keep Simons at the club for next season. But if a club bids over €70 million they are likely to sell the Dutch international despite their wish to keep him at the club.
There is no doubting the talent of Xavi Simons as a player. When fit, he is one the most exciting young attacking midfielders in the Bundesliga. He has shown that over the past two seasons for RB Leipzig. He has an eye for goal and can pick out a pass. Although he isn’t a player in the Kevin De Bruyne mould. Xavi Simons is more of a goal threat than a playmaker. Manchester City do need goals from midfield and that’s an area they’d improve by signing Xavi Simons.
But is Xavi Simons a player worth spending at least €70 million or more on? That’s the question. When looking at the premier young attacking midfielders that could be on the market, Florian Wirtz is, without a doubt, the top player in that particular class. Simons probably sits in a bracket just below the German international. Manchester City are screaming out for goals from midfield and more creativity so Xavi Simons would help in that regard. It depends on how desperate City are to sign the Dutch international if they’ll spend big to sign the RB Leipzig attacking midfielder. But you do feel that paying anything over €70 million may be considered overpaying for Xavi Simons.
But it appears that the price tag is now set for Xavi Simons to leave RB Leipzig this summer. It will depend on whether or not Manchester City see him as a player they must sign if they do spend at least €70 million on the Dutch international. It may also depend on whether or not if City can land Florian Wirtz as to whether or not they need to move for Xavi Simons. Many moving parts will dictate whether or not City will move for Xavi Simons but he won’t come cheap based on Christian Falk’s report.
