'That will be lit': Former Indianapolis Colts linebacker says he can't wait to play against them

E.J. Speed spent six seasons with the Indianapolis Colts and holds a lot of fond memories. He can't wait to make some more against the Colts.

"That will be lit," Speed told a Houston television station shortly after signing a one-year contract worth as much as $5 million with the Texans. The defending AFC South champions play the Colts twice each season.

"Playing against some of those guys like JT (Jonathan Taylor) and AR (Anthony Richardson), I always got to play against them in practice, but I never got to bring them down, so it will be fun. I love Lucas Oil (Stadium). I love the fans. I love Indianapolis, just taking a chance on me as a Division II kid in the fifth round."

The Colts drafted Speed out of Tarleton State in 2019. The 30-year-old (when next season begins) developed from a special teamer into a starting linebacker, racking up 354 tackles in Indianapolis, including 142 in the 2024 season.

"For whatever reason, it came to an end, and now I'm in Houston." Speed said. "They took a chance on me, so it's time to give them everything I've got. Situationally, going back to Indy, playing my guys that will be super fun. They'll tell you the same thing. I'm a competitor. I talk a lot of trash in practice. Now, I get to back it up in games."
