At the annual NFL league meetings, Minnesota Vikings' head coach Kevin O'Connell was asked about new Indianapolis Colts safety Cam Bynum by The Athletic's James Boyd.
"Phenomenal physical traits, a former corner, can play the football," O'Connell said. "Has really shown what I love the most over these last couple of years in Flo's (Brian Flores) defense was a physicality, a willingness to play the true safety position. Come down in the alley, make tackles, yet still play the deep part of the field at a high level."
Bynum brings terrific ball production to the Colts' secondary and is someone who can make an impact in the run game as well. But going beyond the stat sheet, he is an ideal fit within Lou Anarumo's defensive scheme.
In this new Colts' defense, a lot can be put on the plate of the safety position. That player can have wide-ranging responsibilities, which can include being on an island in more prevalent Cover-1 looks as well as the ability to play all over the defensive backfield in what will be a disguise-heavy defense.
"He's got the versatility to be a deep field safety, an at the line of scrimmage player, a blitzer, he can play some of the big nickel role if you need him to with that corner coverage ability and that shows up the most on some of those weighty downs--third down, red zone where you can really align any different way," O'Connell added. "You can play man, zone, pressure, he's really done it all."
The Colts signed Bynum to a four-year deal worth $60 million, including $26 million guaranteed.
I asked #Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell what the #Colts will get in Cam Bynum:

“… depending on what scheme they're gonna play Cam in, he's got the versatility to really be a deep field safety, an at-the-line-of-scrimmage player, a blitzer. … He’s really done it all.”
