Texas A&M Football Spring Practice Highlights as Marcel Reed Shines
COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The Texas A&M football team held its third of 15 spring practices Tuesday on the two outdoor Coolidge Practice Fields. Head coach Mike Elko ruled out eight injured players for the spring, including linebacker Scooby Williams, cornerbacks Tyreek Chappell, Jayvon Thomas, and Jamar Beal-Goines, offensive linemen Ar'maj Reed-Adams and Joshua Moses, and running backs Le'Veon Moss and Amari Daniels. Elko did not disclose the nature of their injuries or provide a specific timetable for their return.
Texas A&M’s third spring practice provided a glimpse into the development of key players as the Aggies continue to fine-tune their roster ahead of the 2025 season. Elko’s emphasis on player progression and system cohesion was evident, with several players making significant strides in their respective roles.
A major storyline from the practice was the continued development of redshirt sophomore quarterback Marcel Reed. Reed has emerged as the leader of the Aggies' offense. Reed showcased his dual-threat abilities, using both his arm and legs to make plays. His passing accuracy, paired with his mobility, signals that he can make an immediate impact. Reed aims to raise his completion percentage to 70% this season, and his performance during this practice demonstrated his growth as the starting quarterback. Elko emphasized that Reed’s development is key to the team’s success.
Wide receiver KC Concepcion, a transfer from North Carolina State, made a significant impact with his quickness and route-running ability, catching the attention of coaches and teammates. His skill set positions him to play a major role in the Aggies' passing game this season. Sophomore Terry Bussey, who is transitioning to a full-time wide receiver role, also impressed, further strengthening the depth of the Aggies' receiving corps.
Defensively, the Aggies’ edge positions look solid, with Cashius Howell and Rylan Kennedy leading the charge. However, Elko acknowledged the need for improvements in the interior defensive line and suggested that the Aggies would look to the transfer portal to bolster this area.
As the spring practices progress, the Aggies’ coaching staff remains focused on building team chemistry and depth across all units. The integration of new talent, alongside the development of returning players, gives Texas A&M a strong foundation heading into the 2025 season. With the team continuing to build on the momentum from this practice, the Aggies are poised to make a significant impact in the SEC.
