Prior to watching Cam Ward go through his Pro Day on Monday, Tennessee Titans head coach Brian Callahan met with reporters and offered some insight into the team's offseason.
One of the biggest questions of course surrounded the quarterback position and whether their moves shine any light on draft strategy. The Titans have added two arms to the room in Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle to join Will Levis, and are poised to select another in the upcoming NFL draft. But Callahan tried to downplay any potential rookie addition, hinting that it is too early in the process to make any determination.
During the media session, Callahan alluded to the addition of Allen as being bigger than many portray.
"I don't think you can make that assumption," Callahan said of the team's potential draft plans. "And I don't think people give enough respect to what Brandon Allen is. I think Brandon is a good quarterback. I think you watch him play and what he's done in his career, he's a guy that can play. He's a good quarterback. You are judging from a pool of guys (in free agency) that are all very similar, one way or another, and everyone has opinions on who is better, this, that or the other. Ultimately, Brandon has played 10 years for a reason."
Though his career numbers aren’t spectacular, throwing for just 1,810 yards with 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions, Callahan is quite familiar with Allen and what he brings to the team. Allen was with him in Cincinnati from 2020-2022 as the primary back-up to Joe Burrow.
What all these moves at the quarterback position mean for the Titans is still a giant question mark at the moment, as they continue to do their diligence on rookie prospects. Tennessee held a second private workout with Cam Ward on Friday and are planning to attend the Shedeur Sanders’ Pro Day in the coming days.
