Taking Aim: Loudonville's Wade has credentials to challenge NJ Classic 3-point record
LOUDONVILLE — In 2019, Mansfield Senior's Quan Hilory put on a News Journal All-Star Classic performance that had never been seen in the game's 46-year history, before or since.
He finished the game with a new record 43 points and was 11-for-20 from the 3-point line. He also had 11 rebounds, five assists and a blocked shot. His 11 threes broke the NJ Classic record knocking off Shelby's Davey Hipp and Mansfield Christian's Tyler Lilly who had eight apiece in their games.

And that record might just be in trouble.
Loudonville senior Dilan Wade matched that total in a game during a Feb. 13, 78-63 win over Temple Christian when he knocked down 11 three-pointers in the Redbirds' victory. It broke the boys basketball program's single-game record, one he was actually tied for with nine which he hit during a game earlier in the season. He became one of just 56 players in the history of Ohio high school boys basketball to make 11 three-pointers in a game, according to the Ohio High School Athletic Association Record Book. He joins the likes of Upper Sandusky legend Jon Diebler, Willard's Nick Dials and three-time Ohio Mr. Basketball and all-time NBA scoring leader LeBron James as players to make 11 in a game.
"In the first half, we hit three in a row and once you starting hitting, you feel like you are on top of the world and you can't miss. So you just keep pulling and pulling. It was such a great feeling to make 11 in a game, for sure."
In a free-flowing All-Star game like the NJ Classic, Wade will have plenty of chances to challenge Hilory's record. In 2019, the North and South teams combined for 100 three-point attempts. In last year's 45th edition of the annual charity game, the teams combined for 104.
"If we are going to shoot that many, then it is right up my alley," Wade said. "I love shooting threes so it will be awesome to be a part of that in an all-star game. It is a huge opportunity. I want to come out and have an on night. I will definitely be going for that record."
Wade is no stranger to record-setting performances. To go with his 11 threes in a single game, he also owns the single-season record with 82 this year. For his career, he has 174 made 3-pointers.
"I spent a lot of time dialing in my shot throughout my four years but the big part was just getting over that fear of missing and just not being afraid to shoot the ball," Wade said. "Sometimes, you just have to pull the trigger without thinking."
While the Redbirds went just 5-18 on the season, Wade and the rest of his teammates had a lot of fun in 2024-25 playing a style of basketball that allowed them to enjoy the game and do some unthinkable things.
"It was so much fun to play that way and have a chance to set those records," Wade said. "I think it was fun for the whole team because each one of my teammates were working so hard to help me get there. It was such a cool experience to be supported like that and I am thankful my teammates and coaches let me hit it."
Wade isn't the only one who could challenge NJ Classic record
While Wade has the in-game credentials to be the obvious choice to challenge Hilory's record, the 46th News Journal All-Star Classic has plenty of sharpshooters.
Crestview's Justice Thompson made 146 three-pointers during his four-year career with the Cougars, a new program record. He made 49 this season and has a single-game personal best of six, but was tasked with getting to the rim and scoring in the paint during key moments of games. With the light-heartedness of the Classic and his unlimited range, he could catch fire. He is the program's all-time leading scorer breaking a 60-year-old record.
Then, there is Mapleton's Scotty Hickey who owns three school records thanks to his shooting prowess. Hickey had 194 career 3-pointers made, 65 during his senior year alone and is tied for the most in a single game with eight with Gabe Ringler, who has a son, Tyson, who is also playing in this year's Classic. Hickey also owns the all-time scoring record at Mapleton.
Lexington's Jakob Legron shot 34% from three this season with 30 makes while teammate Gavin Husty made 36 treys and shot nearly 39%. Northmor's Jax Wenger was north of 35% for the season from deep.
This year's NJ Classic features some sharpshooters who will be taking aim at the all-time record.
