Steelers running out of QB options as Russell Wilson signs with Giants
On Tuesday, ESPN NFL reporter Adam Schefter reported that the New York Giants and former Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson have agreed on a one-year contract worth up to $21 million. This leaves the Steelers with really only one legitimate option in free agency and that is Aaron Rodgers.
The Steelers signed Wilson last offseason and planned to build the offense around him. However, Wilson suffered a ridiculous calf injury while pushing a blocking sled that forced him to miss all of training camp, the preseason and the first six games of the regular season. Once healthy, Wilson took over for Justin Fields and went 7-1 in his first eight starts. However, the wheels fell off after that and Wilson lost his last three regular-season starts and the team's playoff game.
Now the Steelers must sit and wait and hope that Rodgers decides playing for the Steelers is more enticing than retirement.
ESPN Sources: The Giants and Super Bowl-winning QB Russell Wilson reached agreement today on a one-year deal worth up to $21 million, including $10.5 million guaranteed.
