Spring standouts: Meet 36 athletes to watch in 2025

The spring season is finally underway for all high school sports.

Here is a look at some of the Tuscarawas area athletes to watch on the diamonds, tracks and fields in 2025:

Rylee Becker and Lauren Harvey, Strasburg softball

The Tigers' two seniors could win their fourth straight state championship this year, which would tie an OHSAA record. Last season, Harvey batted .355 and went 4-1 from the circle, while Becker batted .387.

Madelin Benner, Leah Bourquin and Trista Lieser, Tusky Valley track and field

The trio combined for four D-III district titles last season. Bourquin, a senior, won the 400 (4th at regionals). Lieser, a junior, won the 3,200 (5th at regionals), and Benner, a junior, won the 100 (4th at regionals) and 300 hurdles (8th).

Parker Bowe, Malvern track and field

Just a sophomore, Bowe's freshman year ended with two district titles (shot put, discus), an IVC title (shot), a trip to state (fourth in discus) and a All-Ohio first team nod.

Emily Bugh, Malvern softball

The Hornets are young with eight underclassmen. Bugh, a freshman, will take over the catching position for the first time in her career.

Sara Cardani, Reese Loveday and Sidney Vandall, New Philadelphia softball

This Quakers hard hitting trio return to lead the way on the diamond this spring. Each put up impressive numbers at the plate last season with Loveday putting up power numbers with a .474 batting average with nine doubles, four home runs and 14 RBIs.

Vandall led the team at a .481 average with two home runs, two doubles, 14 RBIs, while Cardani finished at .389 with two doubles, two home runs and 14 RBIs a year ago.

Clark, who is going to Wheeling University for football, was a regional finalist in the 300 hurdles, placing sixth.

Owen Courtney, New Philadelphia baseball

On the mound, he went 4-2 with a 1.23 ERA. At the plate, the junior hit .406 with 28 hits, 25 RBIs and six homers for the Quakers.

Caden Dugan, Strasburg baseball

The junior was a second team OHSBCA All-Ohio pick last season after he hit .372 with 42 RBIs, 21 runs scored and 14 doubles.
