Apr. 5—Ava Grady hit a sixth inning walk-off home run to give Glacier a 10-0 run-rule victory in a State AA softball championship rematch from a year ago, while the Wolfpack sustained their first loss of the season in game two of the doubleheader 4-3 against Helena Friday.
In the opener Taylor Vivian started things off for Glacier (4-1) in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run single that drove in Nakiah Persinger and Olivia Warriner.
Later in the inning as the Wolfpack batted around, Warriner doubled to right field and drove in Kaydee Walcheck as Glacier took an 8-0 lead.
Grady extended the lead in the second inning with a double that drove in Olivia Gibbons and made it 9-0.
Defensively, Gibbons and Grady split time in the circle. Gibbons started and allowed one hit in two innings of work. Grady took over and closed out the final four innings, striking out seven.
In game two, Helena used a bunt and an RBI groundout to put two runs on the board in the top of the first.
The Wolfpack got one back in the bottom of the frame with Cazz Rankosky bringing home Warriner.
The Bengals added another pair in the fifth as Kamryn Klemp doubled bringing in Keira Campbell. A Faith Howard double brought Klemp home.
Glacier again brought the gap down to one in the sixth as Taylor Vivian drove in Warriner, then scored as Gibbons reached on an error.
It was Howard in the circle for the Bengals (4-0); she shut down the Wolfpack late to close out her fourth win of the season. She allowed just three hits and struck out eight.
Warriner started for the Wolfpack and went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits. She fanned one. Grady threw two no-hit innings to close out the game for Glacier.
