Social media reacts to Aaliyah Chavez's commitment to Oklahoma Sooners
The Oklahoma Sooners picked up a huge win on the recruiting trail, landing the No. 1 prospect in the nation and superstar Aaliyah Chavez. The Sooners earned her commitment over offers from Texas, South Carolina, LSU, and Texas Tech.
It adds to the year that the Sooners have had on the recruiting trail, in the transfer portal, and on the basketball court as Jennie Baranczyk continues to build the Sooners into a women's basketball powerhouse.
It's the type of addition that will keep the Sooners a threat to make the Sweet 16 every year but also push them into national title contention for the next four seasons. Along with what they've done on the court, the Sooners are showing they're a force to be reckoned with off the court as well.
Aaliyah Chavez is a game changer and must-see television. She's a generational prospect that received well-deserved time on ESPN to make her announcement. ESPN led into the decision with discussion on USC women's basketball star Juju Watkin's injury, the return of Golden State star Jimmy Butler, Dallas Cowboys star edge rusher Micah Parson's contract discussion. That was the lead in to her decision. If there were a red carpet of top storylines to lead into a commitment decision, that would be it. ESPN rolled out the red carpet for Aaliyah Chavez, giving time to a future women's basketball star and highlighting just how big of a decision this was.
Chavez choosing the Sooners potentially puts Oklahoma among the elite contenders in college basketball. It was a big day for Oklahoma Women's Basketball and for Jennie Baranczyk and here's how social media reacted to the decision.
