No. 1 prospect Aaliyah Chavez chooses Oklahoma Sooners over Texas
The Oklahoma Sooners are having a fantastic week on and off the basketball court. After beating Florida Gulf Coast on Saturday and blowing out Iowa on Monday, Jennie Baranczyk and the Sooners pulled off a huge recruiting win on Tuesday, landing the No. 1 high school prospect in the nation, Aaliyah Chavez.
"They have great coaches," Chavez said, explaining why she chose the Oklahoma Sooners. "Coaches I have been talking to since I was in eighth grade. Just a great playing style; they match how I want to play. I want to play fast; that's why I chose (OU)."
"The vibe was just different with the players and the coaches," Chavez said.
Baranczyk and the Sooners have created an uptempo, fast-paced, and free-flowing style. Chavez's ability to run the floor and handle the basketball will elevate the Sooners' ability to score.
Chavez has all the tools to be the next great superstar in the collegiate game. She's excellent off the dribble, creates her own shot, can get to the basket and finish, has a great jump shot, and displays fantastic vision and passing to get her teammates involved.
The Sooners earned Chavez's commitment over schools like Texas, Texas Tech, South Carolina, and LSU. As the Oklahoma Sooners look to extend their run in the NCAA Women's Tournament on Saturday against UConn, the Sooners have set themselves up to be contenders for the next four years with the addition of Chavez.
She'll join a roster that will bring back stars like Raegan Beers, Peyton Verhulst, and Sahara Williams.
