Seahawks add another former NFC West rival in free agency
The Seattle Seahawks have been busy building depth on Monday. Earlier in the day they officially signed former Cleveland Browns safety D'Anthony Brown, but they apparently were not done. Another former NFC West division rival has found his way down the Yellow Brick Road to the Emerald City, as Seattle signed 49ers tight end Eric Saubert.
The Seahawks needed tight end depth after veteran Pharaoh Brown signed a one-year contract with the Miami Dolphins this offseason. Saubert has certainly bounced around the NFL, as Seattle will mark the eighth franchise he has signed with - 11 if you count the Dolphins, Patriots and Raiders, as he was only an offseason member of those teams. Most recently, Saubert was with the San Francisco 49ers last year.
Saubert played in all 17 games for the 49ers in 2024, including three starts. He accumulated only 11 receptions for 97 yards and a lone touchdown. Overall in his career, 389 receiving yards on 47 receptions and has found the end zone three total times. This is very clearly a depth signing behind Noah Fant and AJ Barner, who surprised many with his receiving abilities.
Saubert will help bring a veteran presence to a Seahawks offense that will be among the youngest in the NFL.
