Sam Ehlinger expected to sign with Broncos on one-year deal

Former Texas Longhorn and Indianapolis Colts quarterback Sam Ehlinger is headed to the Mile High City. According to FOX Sports insider Jordan Schultz, Ehlinger is expected to sign a one-year deal with the Denver Broncos. The 2021 sixth-round draft pick reportedly received multiple offers but ultimately chose Denver, seeing the best opportunity under head coach Sean Payton.

Ehlinger will be coached by quarterbacks coach Davis Webb and join a room that includes rookie Bo Nix and veteran Jarrett Stidham. He could take over as the team’s third quarterback following Zach Wilson’s departure to the Miami Dolphins this offseason.

Ehlinger spent four seasons with the Colts, appearing in eight games with three starts. He went 0–3 as a starter in 2022 and has career totals of 573 passing yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. His last game action came in 2023, when he played three snaps without attempting a pass.

Ehlinger is a product of West Lake high school and and a former four-year quarterback who enrolled at Texas in January 2017. He played in 46 career games with 43 starts and guided the Texas Longhorns to 27 wins as the starting quarterback, the fourth-most in school history.
