Roundup: Spicer powers Heath softball in slugfest against Bishop Watterson
Kyndall Spicer pounded a pair of home runs in a nine-run fourth inning Monday, vaulting the Heath softball team to a 15-10 season-opening victory against visiting Bishop Watterson.
Kylie Green and Savannah Lawson also homered, and that trio combined with Spicer for eight hits and 11 RBIs for the Bulldogs. Sydney Cottrell and Lexi Purington added three hits apiece and Megan DeVito two hits and two runs.
Heights wins at New Albany
Ava Von Bargen’s two-run double capped a six-run top of the third inning, fueling Licking Heights in a 10-7 season-opening victory at New Albany.
Ali West led the Hornets with three hits and two runs, and Lydia Rauch matched Von Bargen with two hits and two RBIs and Kelsey Carter adding a double a run. Natalie Mahoney allowed four earned runs in six innings.
Granville wins at home
Aubrey Lackey hit her first home run as a part of a 3 for 3 performance, driving in three runs during Granville’s 10-3 victory against visiting Mechanicsburg.
Sophia Patena and Avary King recorded two hits apiece, and Ainsley Johnson and Megan Lodge each doubled with Johnson knocking in a pair of runs for the Blue Aces (2-0). Josie Opfer struck out six and allowed one run in three two-hit innings of relief.
NC drops opener
Brooklyn Kurtz Merricks doubled for Newark Catholic in a 12-0 season-opening loss to visiting Danville.
Veronica Bailey and Emma Lohri each singled for the Green Wave.
Newark falls at home
Mallory Back doubled for Newark (0-2) in a 24-0 loss to visiting Liberty Union.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Heights sweeps
Prabin Bista spearheaded the offensive attack, leading Licking Heights to a victory at Eastmoor Academy, 25-21, 25-23, 25-16.
John Gray, Alieu Bojang and Gavin McManes also shined at the net for the Hornets. Gray and Cleveland Brown Jr. added strong play from the service line and defensively.
