Report: Nets remain interested in Bucks' Giannis Antetokounmpo

The Brooklyn Nets are nearing the end of their 2024-25 NBA season as they seek to end the campaign on a strong note thanks to the development of some of their young players. While Brooklyn seems focused on the current rebuild, they still remain interested in one of the best players in the league right now, potentially as a way to fast track the timeline.

"Multiple league personnel that have spoken with The Post say Giannis Antetokounmpo has been and remains Plan A for the Nets," Brian Lewis of the New York Post wrote (h/t NetsDaily) on Monday. At the time of Lewis' report, the Nets were battling the Dallas Mavericks, who they ended up beating to the tune of 113-109 thanks to the play of guys like Keon Johnson and D'Angelo Russell.

This isn't the first time that Brooklyn has been linked to Antetokounmpo, but it also isn't the first time that the franchise has been linked to a player that was rumored to either want out of his current situation or potentially could be made available by his team if matters didn't work out as planned. Since the Nets officially ended their superstar era by trading away Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant during the 2022-23 season, the organization has been linked to Damian Lillard, Jimmy Butler, and Donovan Mitchell, just to name a few.

"If Antetokounmpo gets traded elsewhere this summer, that may make GM Sean Marks’ path simple, tanking for another year and building through the lottery," Lewis continued. "League personnel expect them to hold their cap space for a big trade, not signings." With the news that the Nets are still interested in Antetokounmpo and that they're expected to use their cap space primarily for a trade, this offseason could be an interesting one for Brooklyn.

If the Nets aren't able to pull off a trade with the Bucks for Antetokounmpo, some of the top players currently slated to be free-agents (excluding players with player options for the 2025-26 season) are Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner, Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, and Chicago Bulls guard Josh Giddey.
