Report: Colts hosting quarterback prospect on pre-draft 30 visit

The Indianapolis Colts will have Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers in for a 30 visit, according to Sports Illustrated's Albert Breer.

"Just as newsworthy is what’s happening around Ewers’s pro day. The plan is for him to meet with the Jets and Las Vegas Raiders today and have dinner with the New Orleans Saints brass tonight, with all three teams expected to send big crews to Austin," wrote Breer. "He’s already has 30 visits set up with the Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and Raiders for early April."

Each draft cycle, every team is able to have up to 30 prospects in for visits at the team facility. It's an opportunity for teams to do medical checks if needed, walk through film, and get to know the player.

Ewers was one of the prospects that the Colts reportedly met with at the NFL combine as well.

In three seasons at Texas, Ewers has completed 65% of his passes at 8.0 yards per attempt with 67 touchdowns to 24 interceptions, according to PFF.

The 2024 season was Ewer's most productive. He would throw for 3,469 yards with 31 touchdowns. Of note, however, Ewers did also throw 12 interceptions versus six the year prior, and his completion rate dipped about 3% as well.

For more on Ewers, here is what Lance Zierlein of NFL.com wrote in his scouting report:

"Ewers' arm talent and game flashes are enticing, but he hasn’t learned to play the game with a high enough level of consistency. The tape of road wins over Alabama and Michigan over the last two seasons showed the clearest picture of Ewers’ ceiling. He spins it with a sudden release and good touch over the first two levels and makes it look easy when he finds a rhythm. He won a high percentage of his career starts but struggled to put points on the board in most big games in 2024. Ewers rarely operates as a smooth, full-field reader. He often predetermines his target and throws into coverage instead of taking what the defense is offering."

Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones will be competing for the Colts' starting quarterback job, but in the two seasons under Shane Steichen, the team has carried a third quarterback on the 53-man roster.

That role has belonged to Sam Ehlinger, who is now a free agent. The addition of Ewers to the roster would add competition for Jason Bean for that potential spot on the team and provide the Colts' with a developmental prospect at the game's most important position.
