Chelsea transfer target Liam Delap has a release clause in the region of £40m if Ipswich get relegated according to reports.
The Blues are set for another busy summer and could look to fund their business by selling as many as seven or eight players.
This summer is arguably the most important window under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership with the Blues needing to sign a striker, centre back and right footed attacker.
Delap relegation release clause
The Blues have been linked with a number of strikers as they desperately seek an alternative for Nicolas Jackson, and they paid the ultimate price for not addressing the situation in January.
Both Jackson and Marc Guiu got injured in the deadline day win against West Ham, whilst the Senegal international is expected to return for Thursday’s game against Tottenham after two months out.
Chelsea are said to be leading the race for Delap, who Enzo Maresca worked with at Manchester City, but they could face competition from rival Premier League clubs.
Mail Sport have reported United have held more internal discussions over whether to make a move for Delap, who’s said to have a release clause in the region of £40m if Ipswich get relegated.
The report adds Liverpool and Newcastle are also interested, whilst City have a buy back option on their academy graduate.
Delap has impressed in a struggling Ipswich side and has scored ten league goals this season, and Chelsea are said to be trying to secure a deal for the striker before the summer window.
