Following a narrow 3-2 win over Leganes over the weekend, Real Madrid will now shift focus to Copa Del Rey, where they take on Real Sociedad on Tuesday.
This game will serve as the second leg of the semi-final, with the first leg ending in a 1-0 win for Real Madrid.
That means Los Blancos only need to avoid a defeat in order to qualify for the Copa Del Rey final this season.
Andriy Lunin to play Copa Del Rey final?
Throughout Real Madrid’s Copa Del Rey campaign so far, coach Carlo Ancelotti has fielded Andriy Lunin as the starting goalkeeper ahead of Thibaut Courtois.
According to COPE, that won’t change if Real Madrid do reach the final this season, with Lunin likely to play in the final, ahead of Courtois.
This could serve as a major relief for the Ukrainian international, who had to move aside for key matches last season once Courtois returned to full fitness.
This came despite the fact that Lunin was one of the best-performing goalkeepers in La Liga last season.
Nevertheless, Lunin has had very few opportunities this time around, most on account of Courtois’ fitness.
He has played in all four Copa Del Rey matches, though, notably keeping two clean sheets while conceding three goals.
Overall, the Ukrainian has played 11 matches in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets and conceding 15 goals.
Should Real Madrid qualify for the Copa Del Rey final, Lunin will have an excellent opportunity to prove himself at the big stage and a big opponent.
It must be remembered that Real Madrid will face either Barcelona or Atletico Madrid in the final, with the second semifinal evenly poised heading into this midweek’s second leg encounter.
