Real Madrid facing major dilemma over defender’s continuity at the club

David Alaba’s return to action after a serious knee injury has raised several questions about his future at Real Madrid, with his recent performances failing to convince many of his place in the team.

According to a report from AS, the Austrian defender’s recovery has been a bright spot for the club, especially considering the injury woes that have plagued their defensive line this season.

However, despite his steady integration back into the squad, Alaba’s performances have yet to win over the Madrid faithful.

Not convincing anyone

Since returning to action, Alaba has played 600 minutes over 14 matches for both club and country, although he has yet to complete a full match.

This lack of full match fitness, compounded by inconsistent displays, has led to doubts about his long-term role at the club.

Now, with his contract running until 2026, Real Madrid must make a crucial decision about whether to extend his stay or part ways in the near future.

Rising competition puts his position at risk

It is worth nothing that Alaba is in danger of losing his place in the starting XI. Antonio Rudiger, whose contract also runs until 2026, has been a rock for the team in recent months, and his continuity, at least for another season, is likely.

Additionally, the potential arrival of a new signing this summer could further complicate matters for the Austrian international. With Raul Asencio also in the mix, Alaba’s position in the starting lineup is under increasing threat.

As it stands, the facts point to Alaba losing his spot in the starting XI, and Real Madrid are faced with a tough decision regarding his future.

Given the competition for places and the potential for new signings, the coming months will be crucial in determining whether Alaba remains a key figure at the Bernabéu or whether he will be on his way out.
