Rams GM Les Snead had a funny reaction to Puka Nacua's early retirement plans

Puka Nacua is only 23 years old but he’s already laid out a plan for his future retirement. He said on a podcast recently that he wants to retire from the NFL at the age of 30, knowing the physical toll the sport of football can put on one’s body.

Some people have taken issue with Nacua publicly declaring his retirement plans – including Colin Cowherd – and now his general manager has spoken out about the comments.

Rams GM Les Snead had a funny reaction to Nacua’s retirement talk while on “Up and Adams” this week. Always a wordsmith, he used the perfect analogy to describe his feelings about Nacua’s plans.

“Wow. You know, Gen Z is like rock stars now. One hit and let’s retire,” he said.

We’ll see whether Nacua actually sticks to his goal of retiring at the age of 30, but he sounded pretty committed to that plan when he discussed it on the “Join The Lobby” podcast. He cited a desire to have a big family and spend time with them, while preserving his health somewhat for his post-playing days.

“I want to have a big family,” Nacua said. “I want to have at least a starting five. I came from a big family so I need five boys, for sure. But also, like, I want to be able to be a part of their lives and be as active as I can with them. The injuries are something you can’t control (as) part of the game, so you never know. Hopefully, the rest of the career can go healthy, but you have shoulder surgery, you have knee surgery, you have ankle. By the time my kids could be 18, I could be barely walking if you play the game and sustain all the injuries and stuff like that, but I want to retire early.”

For now, the Rams have a special receiver on their hands and they’ll likely look to extend him at some point next offseason when he’s first eligible for a new contract.
