Brazilian giants São Paulo were denied the chance to make it two wins from two in the Copa Libertadores group stage after Alianza Lima fought back to earn a 2-2 draw.
Scorers: Ferreira 32', 37'; Castillo 66', Quevedo 76'
Tricolor Paulista, who had not lost in their last eight home matches in the competition and never tasted defeat against Alianza in the Libertadores, were no doubt confident coming into proceedings at MorumBIS.
Neither side could break the deadlock before the half-hour mark, but São Paulo left a glorious chance on the table in the 27th minute when Jonathan Calleri could only send a scuffed effort into the gracious hands of Guillermo Viscarra from close range.
The Brazilians would take the lead in the 32nd minute after a brilliant individual effort from Ferreira saw him beat his man for pace before dispatching past Viscarra at the near post.
Ferreira completed his brace on the night minutes later with a diving header after getting on the end of Marcos Antônio's whipped cross at the near post, and it was no less than São Paulo deserved.
Alianza would cut the deficit in half in the 66th minute after a quality finish from Colombian midfielder Erick Castillo as the domestic giant improved their level after the break.
A moment of absolute quality from Kevin Quevedo would pull Alianza level at two-all when the 28-year-old Peruvian international scored with a scissor kick in the 76th minute, guaranteeing the visitors came away with a point on the night.
With that, São Paulo missed a chance to draw level with Libertad at the top of Group D, while Alianza earned their first point of the campaign.
