PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers are in the midst of a miserable 2024-25 season as they look to just get to the finish line. They have battled a ton of injuries and a lot of adversity that was too much for them to handle.
One bright spot down the stretch of the season has been the play of deadline acquisition Quentin Grimes. Taking over the role of the No. 1 option, Grimes is averaging 22.3 points and 4.4 assists while shooting 39.5% from deep and 49% from the floor overall.
He had 17 points in the fourth quarter of Saturday's loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves which continues to show what he can do on the floor at a high level.
"His consistency," Lonnie Walker IV said of Grimes. "His ability to score. His professionalism. I think he's doing a lot of things, both on and off the court that shows he's a professional. He's treating the game like a pro. He's approaching the game like a pro. I think his work ethic and his scalability is starting to show on the court more consistently."
While Grimes will not be the No. 1 option in the 2025-26 season with the Sixers if he does return, this is a good showing for him. It shows that if Philadelphia is dealing with injuries again in the future, coach Nick Nurse and Co. can turn to Grimes in a pinch to be that No. 1 guy.
"He’s really fearless," Guerschon Yabusele said of Grimes. "He’s really giving it out there, he played 100%. Hits tough shots, his ability to create his own shot, and be able to score when it’s really contested has been amazing. When you look at tonight (Saturday), he got two or three 3s that got us back in the game, it was just amazing. When he’s in that zone, you feel like there’s nothing you can really do."
The Sixers will look to Grimes to continue leading the way in the final four games of the season.
