The Pittsburgh Steelers may not be done adding to their wide receiver room—and it could be thanks to four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers.
Rodgers, infamously known for bringing over much of the Green Bay Packers' receiver room when he left for the New York Jets, may not have put his general managing days behind him.
According to ESPN and Jets insider Rich Cimini, Allen Lazard may be holding off on restructuring his contract with the New York Jets to gauge whether a reunion with Rodgers on the Pittsburgh Steelers is possible.
Cimini speculated that Lazard could stay in New York, but only if he agrees to a significant pay cut and contract restructure.
Reportedly, the new number could resemble another veteran receiver’s deal—around $2.75 million, down from his $11 million base salary. And Cimini believes this is where Lazard’s own waiting game comes into play:
“Lazard could be waiting to see if a reunion with free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is possible before deciding on the Jets' proposal.”
The Steelers are still waiting on Rodgers to sign on the dotted line themselves, but all signs continue to point to the situation being a matter of when—not if.
