Power rankings: Jets jump up in ESPN's poll but have work to do

On the positive side, the New York Jets have jumped up in ESPN's latest power rankings.

Despite that, there is work to do for new head coach Aaron Glenn.

In ESPN's poll, the Jets did move up following their work early on in free agency. Naturally, that is highlighted by the signing of quarterback Justin Fields.

The jump wasn't too positive, though. The Jets moved from No. 29 to 27.

It's a start.

ESPN broke down every team's "under-the-radar move" of the offseason in their power rankings which can be found below:

Way-too-early ranking: 29

Under-the-radar move: Signing tight end Stone Smartt

Smartt has only 31 career receptions, but he flashed for the Chargers last season during a three-game stretch in December against the Chiefs, Bucs and Broncos with 11 catches for 141 yards. He made the switch from quarterback to tight end in his final college season, so there's upside with him as he continues to develop at the position.

The Jets are also undergoing big changes at tight end, giving Smartt, who is going into his fourth NFL season, the chance to make the roster and contribute.
