Petey Halpin homers to help Columbus Clippers win pitchers' duel with Worcester Red Sox

Thursday's game: Columbus 2, Worcester 1

Recap: Petey Halpin homered and three Clippers pitchers held the Red Sox to six hits. Halpin homered in the second inning, and the Clippers took a 2-0 lead in the third when Kyle Datres scored on a wild pitch. Worcester scored a run in the ninth, but Andrew Misiaszek struck out Nathan Hickey with two runners on to end the game. Columbus starter Parker Messick (1-0) pitched five shutout innings, allowing five hits and striking out eight. Zak Kent pitched two shutout innings before Misiaszek entered for the final two innings.
