Apr. 2—RAPID CITY — Five state champions for Parkston led the way among area teams at the 2025 South Dakota Wrestling Coaches Association youth state tournament on March 28-30 at the Summit Arena.
In the 14-and-under boys division, Parkston's Sutton Leischner won the 75-pound title with a first-period pin over Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica/Stickney's Noah Reimnitz, while Kiptyn Schaefers won the 120-pound title with a second-period pin. In the under-12 175-pound boys division, Layton Horstman, of Parkston, won the state title with a second-period pin.
For Parkston in the 19-and-under 175-pound championship, Wyatt Anderson won the state title with an 11-0 technical fall over Rapid City's Tucker Mason. At 6U boys 46 pounds, McCoy Meyer, of Parkston, won the state title with a 41-second pin over Gregory's Abram Veskrna.
Chamberlain had four title winners, including a pair of champions in the boys under-12 division, plus an 8U and 10U champion. At 65 pounds in 8U, Briggs Purdy claimed the title, while Denver Rinehart won the 10U title at 113 pounds with a 59-second pin. In the 12U division, Ty Larson won the 127-pound championship via decision and Axel Steele won the heavyweight title with a second-period pin.
Bon Homme's Harper Kracht claimed the girls state title at 14U 120 pounds with a major decision in the final, claiming her second-straight state championship. In the 6-and-under boys 40-pound division, Bon Homme's Rowdey Pesek won the title with a major decision in the final.
Mount Vernon/Plankinton/Corsica/Stickney had a pair of state champions. In the girls 10U division, Haylee Reimnitz won the 60-pound title with a major decision over Winner's Baizlee Stirling. In the boys 6U 67-pound division, Monte Moody won the title over Cooper Camac, of Kimball, with a pin in 2 minutes and 14 seconds.
Winner had a pair of state champions. In the 16U division, Roukyn Robbins won the 120-pound title with a 19-10 decision over Clark/Willow Lake's Kaden Wookey, while Bridger Stirling won the 82-pound boys 12U title by 3-0 decision.
American Outlaws' Jory Heinrich, of Dimock, won the state title in the 10U boys 59-pound division via technical fall in the championship round. The club also had Madison Little, of Aberdeen, win the 14U 105-pound girls title with a 4-0 decision.
For the Heartland Wrestling Academy club, Sakura Bainter, of Montrose, won the girls 12U title at 66 pounds with a 2-0 decision. It was Bainter's third AAU state title in a row.
Claiming girls titles, Platte/Geddes' Alaina VandenHoek claimed the 8U title at 44 pounds, picking up a title-round pin in 24 seconds. In the 10U girls division at 50 pounds, Platte/Geddes' Tessa Vandenhoek topped teammate Elsie Konechne for the state title via pin.
Mary Tanke, wrestling for the Pony Hills squad out of Wessington Springs, won the girls 8U 61-pound championship with a 2:08 pinfall in the title round. Scotland's Molly Manas won the 76-pound girls title in the 8U division, defeating Mitchell's Elsie Lauritsen via pinfall. Hanson's Ellie Dobesh picked up a title at 77 pounds in the girls under-10 division, with a 39-second pin over Winner's Addison Wingert-Hempel.
Andes Central's Kharis Dion won the boys 10U heavyweight title with a 31-second pin in the championship match, claiming his second AAU state title in a row. Lyman had a state champion in the 10U boys 134-pound division as Hooper Sazue won the title over Winner's Jacob Sully with a first-period pin.
For Marion/Freeman, Michael Blau won the 125-pound title for the 14U division with a pin in 4:21. Scotland's Jackson Runyon won the 180-pound 14U title with a second-period pin, while McCook Central/Montrose's Easton Meyer won 3-1 over Sioux Valley's Harvey Hardt for ...
