Panthers DL Tershawn Wharton recalls saving young Chiefs fan in Carolina last season
Tershawn Wharton has already made a clutch play at Bank of America Stadium, even before becoming a Carolina Panther.
When he was still a Kansas City Chief, specifically on Nov. 24, 2024, Wharton and the then-reigning Super Bowl champions visited Charlotte for a Week 12 matchup with the Panthers. Following the closely-contested battle, one that nearly saw the underdog (Carolina) pull out a shocking upset, the fifth-year defensive lineman caught a young Chiefs fan who fell from the stands.
Wharton, who can now call the scene of his heroics "home," was asked about his big catch during his introductory press conference on Wednesday.
"One of the fans called my name over in that section," he stated. "I just seen him coming down and when I seen him come down, it was just a natural reaction to go catch him."

Wharton was also asked if he's stayed in touch with the lucky youngster since the fortuitous interaction.
"And yeah, we were in contact," Wharton added. "He was a big Chiefs fan, so the family traveled with the team. The following game, he came out to K.C. and I was able to meet him and I gave him a jersey."
Carolina agreed to a three-year, $45 million deal with Wharton at the start of the legal tampering period.
The 26-year-old is fresh off a career campaign—where tallied bests in starts (10), combined tackles (29), sacks (6.5), quarterback hits (11) and passes defensed (two). Oh . . . and he also had that one reception, of course.
