Packers GM Brian Gutekunst attends Texas Longhorns pro day

Brian Gutekunst, the Green Bay Packers general manager, and Jon-Eric Sullivan, the VP of Player Personnel, were deep in the heart of Texas on Tuesday for the Longhorns' pro day, getting an up-close look at some potential targets in the 2025 NFL Draft.

The Longhorns have a bounty of prospects who could be high on Green Bay's board, including a trio of players who could be targets in the first round.

Matthew Golden, WR

A transfer from Houston, Golden recorded 58 receptions for 987 yards and nine touchdowns during his lone season with the Longhorns. A former track athlete, Golden has the vertical speed to take the top off a defense and create explosive plays. He's not just a vertical threat though, Golden is a three-level threat and a crisp route runner. Golden checks all the boxes with his athleticism, route running and hands to be the first wide receiver the Packers have taken in the first round since 2002.

Jahdae Barron, DB

Barron is as versatile as they come. He can play anywhere in the secondary and excel. During the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, he logged 771 snaps in the slot and was one of the best nickel cornerbacks in college football during the 2023 season. This past season, he showcased he could play on the outside, recording an SEC-leading five interceptions. With his versatility, ball skills and toughness, Barron could be in play for the Packers in the first round as they continue to add versatile pieces in the secondary.

Kelvin Banks Jr, OL

Banks finished his career as a Longhorn with 42 career starts at left tackle and could be a candidate to kick inside to guard. He’s got the easy athleticism to climb to the second level and shows good range as a run blocker. Banks is ideally built and has agile feet. He has a quick setup in pass protection and is smooth in his lateral slide. This past season he gave up one sack and 10 pressures. With his tackle-guard versatility, athleticism and age (21), Banks could be a first-round target for Gutekunst.

Vernon Broughton, DT, Texas

Broughton is an active interior presence and recorded five tackles for loss, four sacks, and forced two fumbles this past season. He gets upfield quickly and is a violent pass rusher. Broughton does a good job of getting off blocks and disrupting the action in the backfield. Broughton could bolster Green Bay's interior pass rush, while helping them continue against the run.

Alfred Collins, DT

Collins may be on of the best run stuffers in this draft class. The former five-star recruit looks every bit the part of a future wrecking ball. He has raw power and walks blockers back into the quarterback’s lap. He has the range to make plays up and down the line of scrimmage and his motor is always running.

Jake Majors, C

With 56 career starts at center, Majors set a program records for starts and is one of the most seasoned centers in the draft. He has heightened awareness and understands protections. Over the past two seasons, Majors has given up zero sacks and 22 pressures.  He doesn't have position versatility, but if the Packers are looking to add depth at center on Day 3, Majors could be a potential target.

Barryn Sorrell, Edge

Sorrell checks the boxes with his frame and athleticism. As a run defender, he snatches and tosses and sets a hard edge. He's a pro-ready run defender. Over the past three seasons, Sorrell has recorded 15.5 sacks and 121 pressures. If the Packers miss out on an edge rusher in the first three rounds, Sorrell could be a target for them on Day. Even if they add one during the first two days of the draft, Sorrell could still be a target.

Jaydon Blue, RB

The Texas running back has home run speed and is shifty in space to make defenders whiff. According to Pro Football Focus, Blue finished this past season with 517 yards after contact and forced 37 missed tackles. The Packers don't have a need at running back, but if Gutekunst wants to get in on what's a talented group, Blue may be the target.

Isaiah Bond, WR

The Alabama transfer is a dynamic playmaker and reportedly clocked a 4.35 40-yard dash at UT's Pro Day. The former track athlete is a vertical threat and can take swing passes the distance with his game-breaking quickness. Bond is similar to Jayden Reed and having those two on the same offense would put a lot of stress on opposing defenses. He reportedly has a 30-visit scheduled with the Packers.

Hayden Conner, G, Texas

Conner finished his career at Texas with 43 starts at left guard. This past season he showcased that he could play center if needed, logging 50 snaps there. This past season he gave up zero sacks and 15 pressures. Conner has bully strength and is a mauling run blocker.
