Five Takeaways from Texas Pro Day, 21 former Longhorns look to impress NFL scouts

21 former Texas Longhorns hit the field at the Texas bubble practice facility to show off and show out for a gathering of NFL scouts, coaches and general managers. Many of the potential 2025 NFL Draft Prospects helped their draft status. In addition to the work out, several players met with scouts and representatives from teams across the NFL.

The 21 participants included quarterback Quinn Ewers, running backs Jaydon Blue and Velton Gardner, wide receivers Matthew Golden, Silas Bolden and Isaiah Bond, tight ends Gunnar Helm and Juan Davis, offensive linemen Kelvin Banks Jr., Jake Majors, Cameron Williams and Hayden Conner, defensive linemen Alfred Collins, Bill Norton, Vernon Broughton, Barryn Sorrell, linebackers David Gbenda and Morice Blackwell Jr. and defensive backs Jahdae Barron, Andrew Mukuba and Gavin Holmes.

As for the notable NFL names in Austin, they included New Orleans Saints head coach Kellen Moore, Houston Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans and general manager Nick Caserio, New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead, Baltimore Ravens secondary coach Chuck Pagano and Chicago Bears wide receiver coach Antwaan Randel El.

Here are some of the biggest takeaways from the event:

1. Quinn Ewers (mostly) good day

Quinn Ewers had a decent outing. The Southlake Carroll product had 50 completions out of 59 attempts. Ewers had five incompletions and four drops by his receivers. Observers say the former Texas QB started off strong with his deep ball, but threw three straight ducks at the end of his session.

According to most who were present at the event, observers were impressed by Ewers' arm talent now that his in-season injuries are behind him.

2. Quinn Ewers duck goes viral

Despite the impression that Ewers may have helped his draft status, he did have those three ducks in the deep ball portion at the end of his throwing session. The clips on X/Twitter have been getting a lot of interaction. Hopefully, it's not the biggest takeaway from his Pro Day.

3. Jaydon Blue helped his draft stock

Blue had hoped to challenge or break former teammate Xavier Worthy's NFL Combine 40-yard dash record of 4.21 seconds at the NFL Combine. But he didn't really come close, running a 4.38 in Indianapolis. It turns out Blue was dealing with a grade II groin strain. After an MRI, the running back found out it was actually torn.

Blue's 4.25 and 4.28 he ran at Pro Day more resembles the times experts thought he'd run in Indy. Blue definitely made some money on Tuesday.

4. Jahdae Barron is Longhorn for Life

How much did Jahdae Barron love being a Texas Longhorns? He didn't want to wear anything but Burnt Orange. The pro day gear Nike provided the prospects was mostly black with some grey and some orange. But Barron wanted to wear the Burnt Orange one more time and refused to wear the provided apparel.

5. Silas Bolden shines

Texas wide receiver Silas Bolden didn't get an invitation to the NFL Combine. So, the Texas Pro Day was his one opportunity to show out for NFL Scouts and he did just that.

Bolden made some circus catches and posted 40-yard dash times of 4.38 and 4.41 seconds. The Rancho Cucamonga, California native most likely secured a draft spot on day three of the NFL Draft.
