Oshae Brissett reacts to joining Sixers, making debut in loss to Pacers
PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers have been in need of bodies as they continue to deal with a ton of injuries in the 2024-25 season. As they took on the Indiana Pacers on Friday, they were without the likes of their entire Big 3 as well as Andre Drummond, Kelly Oubre Jr., Justin Edwards, and others.
Therefore, they made the move to sign Oshae Brissett out of the G League to a 10-day deal and give him an opportunity. Brissett was playing for the Long Island Nets before he got the call up.
In fact, he was playing for the Nets on Thursday before the Sixers signed him to the deal. He scored 14 points in a loss to the Indiana Pacers on Friday.
"Man, I mean, this morning I was doing my regular morning routine about to go get treatment, and then my agent called and told me, you have a flight in a couple of hours, so pack your bags and get ready," Brissett laughed after the loss. "Then, landed I thought I was going to the hotel to drop my bags off, but they're like, ‘no, we’re going straight to the arena.’ I was like, all right, cool. Now we’re here."
Brissett has experience with coach Nick Nurse and Sixers veteran Kyle Lowry. He played under Nurse and with Lowry as a rookie with the Toronto Raptors in the 2019-20 season so he is looking forward to continue his NBA career under the guidance of Nurse once again.
"Amazing, man," Brissett said of playing with Nurse again. "I mean, my first year I always say I feel like I was blessed with a great coach and great vets. KLow was obviously there as well. That kind of got me on the right track for the rest of my career, just being that guy that tries to stay out of trouble, do all of the right things, and do whatever the coach asked me to do and that was kind of my role of my first year, even on a two-way."
The Raptors were the defending champs at the time after knocking off the Golden State Warriors in 2019. Nurse gave Brissett the opportunity to play a bit despite playing for such a veteran-laden team at the time.
"Coach Nurse kind of trusted me in some games to put me out there and be myself and now it’s kind of the same thing," he explained. "I feel like we kind of know each other a little bit more. We talked a little bit throughout the summer and throughout the seasons that I’ve been in the NBA. He’s just been a great friend someone I could always talk to, so to be back playing for him is amazing."
Brissett and the Sixers will face the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday as he looks to continue his career in Philadelphia.
