Jalen Hood-Schifino reacts to joining Sixers ready for new opportunity
The Philadelphia 76ers welcomed a new addition to the floor on Friday at shootaround as they prepared to face the Indiana Pacers. When considering all of the players missing on the floor, the Sixers had to get creative in order to field a roster and take on the Pacers.
Therefore, they called up recent two-way signing Jalen Hood-Schifino.
A first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Lakers in 2023, Hood-Schifino only has 23 NBA games under his belt due to a ton of injuries, but he is ready for a new opportunity in Philadelphia. He was able to get a few games with the Delaware Blue Coats under his belt before joining the Sixers.
"It's been good," Hood-Schifino said of his adjustment to the Sixers. "First off, just thankful for the Lakers organization for drafting me in 2023 and now that I'm here, just thankful to have another opportunity. Prior to playing in the 3 G League games that I did play, the last game last game I played was Dec. 1. So just thankful to be able to be on the floor and play basketball and again, and thankful to be here now."
When considering all of the injuries the Sixers are battling through right now, they offer up an excellent opportunity to JHS to get himself going again in his career. He is looking forward to all of the minutes he is expected to get within the coming weeks.
"Especially me being in year two, obviously going through what I've been through in my journey not playing a lot, going through injuries, it kind of allows me to have opportunity to be on the floor and play and grow," Hood-Schifino explained. "So I'm definitely looking forward to stepping on the court and again, being in this organization."
There is a good chance he plays a ton of minutes over the final 17 games of the season with the Sixers sitting at 22-43 and 5.5 games out of the final play-in tournament spot in the East.
