The Onsted boys track and field team took the LCAA title a year ago and this season is already off to a strong start, winning its' home Early Bird invite.

The Wildcats are poised to be one of the top teams as well this season and will look to claim more than an LCAA title this year.

Here are some the headlines going into the new season:

Onsted's Aidan Paquin receives the baton from Griffin Amthor in the 4x100 during the MHSAA Division 3 track and field regional at Madison.

Wildcats running toward strong season

Onsted ran away with the LCAA title a year ago and came in second in the Division 3 regional to Whiteford. The Wildcats will be in the running for both titles with an experienced group returning.

Seniors Aidan Paquin and Griffin Amthor headline the sprinters as two of the fastest boys in Lenawee while fellow senior Mitchell Hiatt is fresh off a state title in cross country as he, senior James Bayes and sophomore Nicklas Holmes hold down the distance races.

Junior Mason Chesser will also factor in some of the relays and sprints, but he's one of the top jumpers around after winning the high jump at the among the top in the long jump.

Among the other returners looking to keep Onsted on top of the LCAA and make run toward the regional and state titles are sophomore thrower Carson Garrison, sophomore runner Connor Kish, junior runner Hunter VanZant and senior hurdler Chase Fetzer.

Trojans to challenge

While Onsted is the favorite to repeat in the LCAA, Madison has a lot back as well to give the Wildcats a challenge.

Seniors Dominic Velasquez and Jalonn Borders, junior Trenton Fetter and sophomores Nathan Mullins and Derrell Tillman, plus many more, are all back and looking to dethrone Onsted.

Back for more

There are number of returning athletes looking to run it back or climb the rankings in their events.

Clinton senior thrower Mason Brodie is among the top three returning from the Division 3 state meet a season ago in both the shot put and the discus while Onsted's Mason Chesser is top-five in the high jump.

In Division 4, Brenner Powers is one of the top returning sprinters in the area and top-five in the long jump.
