On this day: Career highs from Rozier, Bradley; Wynder signed
On this day in Boston Celtics history, reserve guard Avery Bradley had himself a night in an 88-76 win against the Washington Wizards in a home game at TD Garden in 2012. The University of Texas alum scored a career-high (at that time) 23 points, 3 rebounds, an assist, and a steal via 9-of-14 shooting from the floor. He went 1-of-2 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 4-of-4 from the line to reach what was at that time a career-high for Bradley. More impressively, the Tacoma native had no turnovers in a game-high 40 minutes of floor time, with 4 personal fouls.
"It's all about confidence," said Bradley after the game via the Associated Press. Sometimes I would go into the game thinking twice about shooting," he added. "Now, if I'm open, I'm open and I'll shoot it. I've been making them," said Bradley, whose previous high was 20 points. "I was fortunate enough for my teammates to find me in transition and give me the ball, and I made shots."
Teammate Paul Pierce added 21 points and 8 rebounds as well.
It was on this date that the Celtics made a late-season signing of undrafted point guard AJ Wynder. Wynder played his collegiate basketball at UMass and Fairfield College before being signed by Boston, for whom he played just 6 games. In that short stint, the Bronx native averaged 2 points and 1.3 assists over 6.5 minutes per game. The Celtics also defeated the Sacramento Kings today in 2018, winning 104 - 93 as reserve guard Terry Rozier continued to forge the legend of "Scary Terry" with his late-season surge, starting in place of injured Kyrie Irving.
The Ohio native would score 33 points for a career-high on 12-of-16 shooting (including 8-of-12 from 3-point range) in one of the best games of his Boston tenure.
"A lot of credit goes to my teammates and my coaches because they steady believe in me every game, and they make it happen for me," said Rozier courtesy of the Associated Press. "My job is easy. All I have to do is try to make the shot."
Boston also saw solid performances from shooting guard Jaylen Brown with 19 points, and big man Al Horford, who contributed 14 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists.
