Rookie Alexandre Sarr makes Wizards history after career performance
Alexandre Sarr finished with a career high in scoring and etched his name in the franchise history books to lead the Washington Wizards to a win over the Denver Nuggets.
Sarr produced 34 points, six rebounds, five assists, one steal and one blocked shot in the 126-123 victory at Ball Arena. He went 12-of-28 from the field, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range, in nearly 32 minutes as the Wizards improved to 6-4 over their last 10 games.
The No. 2 pick became the youngest player in franchise history to score at least 30 points in a game (19 years, 323 days). He is the seventh rookie to reach that mark this season.
"He was great, obviously," Wizards coach Brian Keefe said. "I love that Alex just went out there and played his game. He was aggressive and attacked, his teammates were able to find him. He made some big shots late -- a terrific game by him."
Sarr scored 24 points alone in the first half, becoming the first Wizards rookie to do so since Jordan Crawford had 26 on March 30, 2011. He showcased everything on offense in the contest, from working in the paint to stepping out and hitting from beyond the arc.
The Frenchman helped keep the Wizards within striking distance after trailing 72-63 at halftime. The team responded by outscoring the Nuggets 63-51 over the last two quarters, capped off by Jordan Poole's 35-foot go-ahead 3-pointer with 2.8 seconds left.

Sarr continued a strong March with the performance after finishing in double figures for the sixth time in eight games. He is posting 15.9 points, 6.9 rebounds, three assists and 1.5 blocks on 37.2% shooting from 3-point range in the month.
The 7-footer is averaging 12.3 points, 6.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.5 blocks on 39.2% shooting from the field in 51 games this season with the Wizards. He is fourth in the rookie class in scoring and rebounding, and 15th among all players in the league in blocked shots (79).
Sarr and the Wizards are amid their best stretch of the season. With 16 games remaining, the group will look to finish the year strong to build momentum into the summer.
"I feel like just keeping the momentum rolling (is what we want to do)," Sarr said. "I feel like as a team over the last 10 games, we've been doing great. Just keep that going."
