Kyshawn George surpasses Bradley Beal in Wizards history with latest performance
Kyshawn George finished with nine points and hit two key 3-pointers late on Thursday to help the Washington Wizards defeat the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena.
George scored all nine points in the fourth quarter as the Wizards held a 33-24 advantage in the period to split a two-game series against the Pistons on the road. He connected on two 3-pointers in the last two minutes to help tie the game and then go ahead.
The 24th pick reached 100 career 3-pointers with the performance, becoming the fastest rookie in franchise history to reach that mark (59 games), surpassing Bradley Beal (2012-13). He and Bub Carrington are just the third rookie duo in history to both make 100 3s.
"It shows you the mental toughness that he has (to make those 3-pointers)," Wizards coach Brian Keefe said. "He hadn't had a great scoring game early. I don't know if he had scored going into the fourth, had some foul trouble. It shows you the game is never perfect, but if you stay with it, the game can turn and he turned it big time in the fourth. I'm really proud of him."

George is averaging 8.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.4 assists on 36.2% shooting from the field this season with the Wizards. He has registered three 20-point games, including a career-high 24 points on Jan. 16 in a loss against the Phoenix Suns.
The 21-year-old is among a crowded draft class for the Wizards, joining Alexandre Sarr, Carrington and AJ Johnson. They are the first team since the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2021-22 season to have three rookies each average at least 25 minutes per game (Sarr, Carrington, George).
The group has earned praise from coaches, teammates and peers for their ability on the court and grit they've given the team. The Wizards have struggled to pick up wins, but they appear to have identified cornerstone players they can build around in the future.
